Resize photo to 50 KB
Target is 50 KB as JPG — the most common exam and job-portal photo cap. You can still change pixels if the form lists them.
Resize a photograph to 50 KB
Fifty kilobytes is the default photograph limit on a large share of Indian exam and recruitment forms. SSC, railway, banking, teaching and many state commissions still print “photo up to 50 KB” even when the camera on the desk produces a 2 MB file. This page opens with 50 KB and JPG already set.
A 50 KB file can look acceptable if the crop is a face on a plain background. It looks poor if you compress a wedding album shot. Crop first, then generate. Pair with Image Crop when the scan is skewed, or Passport Photo when you also need a print sheet.
50 KB photos on exam portals
The notice may also list millimetres (often 3.5 × 4.5 cm) or pixels (for example 200 × 230). Set width and height here when pixels are given. Millimetre size for printing is a different job — use Passport Photo for a cut-out sheet, then come back here if the portal still wants a small JPG.
Signatures on the same form are often 10–20 KB, not 50 KB. Do not upload the photo file in the signature slot. Use the 20 KB page for the sign.
- JPG for almost every SSC, RRB and state photo upload
- WEBP and HEIC are commonly rejected
- Crop extra background so the 50 KB budget is spent on the face
- If the site wants 20–50 KB, 50 KB at or just under is the usual aim
When 50 KB is rejected
Rejection is usually format, pixels, or a minimum size (file too small) rather than the compressor failing. Check JPG, the exact pixel box, and whether the form wants a range such as 20–50 KB. If the download is 50.2 KB, generate again. If the face is too dark, fix lighting and recrop — compressing a dark photo will not lighten it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I resize an image to 50 KB?
Upload the photo here. The target is 50 KB and JPG. Crop, generate, and download. The sidebar shows the result size.
Is 50 KB the SSC photo size?
Many SSC cycles cap the photograph at 50 KB. The notice for your year is the rule. Signatures are usually smaller.
Can I also set 200 × 230 pixels?
Yes. Enter width and height as well as 50 KB when the form lists both.
Should I use PNG?
Not for most exam photos. PNG often stays larger than 50 KB. JPG is the usual upload type.
Is this the same as the Image Resize tool?
Yes, same compressor. This page only starts at 50 KB and explains the exam-photo case.
